Hiking In Rocky Mountain National Park (Cascades)

Hiking is one of our favorite pastimes which is why we were so excited to be able to squeeze in a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park when we were in Colorado! Now when we first got there, we noticed that the permit area was closed…so we flagged down a ranger who told us that the park was technically closed for the season and that it would be free to hike there that day. We were definitely surprised to hear that, but we couldn’t pass on a free day in a national park! We settled on a short hike (daylight was diminishing)…to the Ouzel Falls which was about 5.4 miles roundtrip. We saw a few people on the trail but for the most part, we were alone with nature…and our bear spray! We were hiking amongst snow, so it was a bit cold out which is why I wore a whole lot of layers. Over a t-shirt, I wore a hoodie I found at Sports Authority which was easy to put on and easy to take off because when I’m hiking my body temperature fluctuates. Also I wore leggings from Target which made it easy to move around and since I have about 20 versions of these…I wouldn’t be afraid to ruin them when outdoors. Although I didn’t wear my down jacket the whole time, it did help in the beginning when I wasn’t as warmed up. Now in terms of my hiking boots by Asolo…these are the best boots I have ever had! They make it easy to function on different terrains and they’re super comfortable after long hikes. In fact, I’ve tested them on 20 mile hikes and my feet have thanked me! Definitely, we’ll be heading back to this national park in the future because hanging out in this peaceful setting is so contagious!
